A Touch of Magick

For three years I've been chasing the dream of participating in one of the largest Conventions in the States, Rose City Con in Portland, Oregon. When I first applied three years ago, I was still residing in Las Vegas, Nevada, and when I was turned down I told myself it was okay because I knew I'd be moving to Oregon in the next year or two. This would make it easier to apply with very little travel.

When we arrived in late 2024 to Salem, Oregon, one of the first things I did after we settled in was to apply for Rose City along with a friend who could share a table. I thought sure the universe had just made me wait until the move, but I was wrong. We didn't make the cut and I was so disappointed.

Over the years I've been told by many friends and sometimes family that I don't like the word NO. I could go on how it's just me being focused on goals, but I'd be just be pouring hot fudge on broccoli. Truth is this Capricorn doesn't like to be told no when it's something she really wants. It's the driving force that pushes me to step out of my comfort zone and pursue things that some people I know file under things not to be.

So given this positive or negative about me, depending on how you view it, when 2025 came rolling around you can bet I had full intentions of applying again. I reached out to a few local authors I had the pleasure of signing with over the past few months and one answered the call. He was looking for someone to share the table with and so once again, my hat was thrown into the ring. Only this time, I needed help.

It's no secret I hold my connection to my ancestors close and this time I needed them to intervene. Explaining the con to them over a shared cup of coffee, I clearly let them know what I wanted and what it meant to me. Jason, my table mate, took care of the entry. To be honest the move had taken more from me than I anticipated and it was nice to have someone else do the heavy lifting. I lit a candle... I lit several candles, and reminded them from time to time through the process that we both needed their help.

When the day finally came that Jason shared the acceptance email with me, the emotions that raced through me were more than joy, it was connection. I've never really lost them, they're there, and I know when I need them the most, I'm never alone.
