Can you believe we're in February already? I swear, the older I get the quicker the years pass by. I remember my parents telling me this when I was a kid. I didn't believe them. I chalked it up to just being parents. I was wrong. LOL
This month I'm excited to share with you my upcoming events. It feels good to get out into the community again.

This one sounds so much fun! I've never been to a McPea Pop-UP Market event!

I designed this author poster, so no comments. LOL

Wine & Books, what's not to love! This is actually a lovely event that I had the pleasure of attending this past November, and I'm thrilled to be back!
On a goofy level, I wanted to share these little guys with you. My BFF sent them to me for my birthday, and I think they're adorable. I love their little messages.

Although I won't be having any new book releases for 2026, keep an eye out for 2027. With three new books in the works, it should be a busy year! Stay tuned for updates.
Now for a random writing tip...
This isn't something I usually do, but I was asked the question and I figured maybe more of you had been pondering the same thing. If a publisher asks you for money to edit, format, and create the cover, they are not a traditional press. This is usually referred to as a vanity press.
Some companies slide by referring to themselves as hybrid. My thoughts are this, if they ask for a fee up front, like a boutique publisher, you know who they are and what you're getting. However, if they lure you in with the hope your manuscript will get chosen for the traditional route, but if not you pay them, you may never know if your work is desired by a traditional press. I've spoken to many authors over the years that have been blinded by the promise of possible publishing, only to be disappointed. In fact, in all the years I've been published, I only met one author who was offered a traditional contract with a hybrid company.
Once again, this answer is based on my experience. In addition, it has nothing to do with authors who are self-published. They retain more control than using a vanity or hybrid company. There are several indie presses who operate as traditional and accept non-solicitated manuscripts. If you're determined to try the traditional route, investigate a few of them. Choose one that fits your work, the only thing you have to lose is a leaner wallet.

Finally, I like to share with you our adorable little Curie. She's in the running for America's Favorite Pet. Our baby girl made the Top Ten elimination and is currently holding 7th place. In three days they pick the the Top 5. I'm leaving the link here to cast your free vote. Curie and I would be over the moon excited if you could help her to the next level.
