Since the debut of Stranger Things season four, the Kate Bush song, Running Up That Hill, has been a slight obsession. I've added it to my writing playlist and also to the Spotify playlist I'm creating for Alex McKenna & Death Is Not The Beginning, book four in the series which releases this September.
I've also downloaded another version by, Placebo. Their rendition is darker, slower paced, and to me, expresses the life of Alex McKenna. It's amazing how much music can effect our lives. The way one song can move you to tears and another ignite a fire in your belly and give you the strength to stand up for what you believe in.
It can get you through dark moments when the only thing that you want is the melodic tunes to nurse your gaping wounds. I often fall back on the comfort of certain songs that bring memories of loved ones I've lost to the front of my mind, giving me the experience of having them with me again.
It's been a rough couple of weeks, both personally and politically, and I don't know if I'd been able to cope if it weren't for the songs I could wrap myself in. I really have to thank my dad for this gift. Playing the guitar and piano, he expressed himself for years with strings and keys. And when arthritis ravaged his hands, he used hundreds of recorded songs to do for him what he could no longer do for himself. I was never gifted enough to play an instrument, but I did inherit is connection to music. One of the best gifts anyone has bestowed on me, I thank him everyday.
I know this blog might seem a little off road, but it's where I'm at today. So, I'm going to share a few of the songs that are giving me the strength to push through the day. I hope you enjoy them. And yes, one of them is Running Up That Hill. But this is the one by Placebo.
All of these songs can also be found on my Spotify playlist for, Alex McKenna & Death Is Not The Beginning. Release date, September 20, 2022.
